Citizens Schools and Start with the Pyramid
The citizens schools article was very interesting! I think that this program is a great idea. Not only for inner city schools, but everywhere. I think its important for programs to be available to for students to join and participate in that will not only keep them out of trouble but also help with their grades. I think this type of program is also good because it is different for most. They focus on not only academics but also open student's eyes to hands on experiences, such as the mock trial they mentioned. I also think the Exploration Day is a good way to get students involved in their community.
I am a big fan of project based learning. The article about using real-world issues to get students involved is an excellent idea. I like how students have to research on something that is happening currently or something of interest, other than the basics. I think students learn better this way and have more motivation to learn about a topic, if it isn't always about math, science or other subjects. These type of projects could be done as a group or individually, which is important for learning.

About Me!
My name is Cassi, I am 23 years young :). I am from Bombay, India but came to Maine when I was very young. Since high school I have worked with a wide range of different ages children and also in different child care settings. I have worked with children with special behavioral needs; such as ADD, ADHD, or ODP, for a couple years, until I graduated college. I really enjoyed this line of work, because I felt like I was really helping these children. I attained my AS degree in Early Childhood Education, and right after college I was offered a job in a children's learning center. I worked with children 6wks to 5 years of age. I enjoy all age groups, but my favorite are infants and children in pre-k. I currently work at the University of Maine with infants, ages-6 weeks to 18 months. I love my job! I am completing my degree at UMO. With my bachelors degree, I will be able to teach K-3.
I've decided for my blog that I will talk about infants and toddlers. This blog with contain information, tips, and activities to do with young children.
